Howick Township council has finalized its budget for this year.
Reeve Doug Harding says council looked at three options and they settled on a tax increase of 5.478 percent, and he says that translates into a levy increase of 7.01 percent.
Harding says that means an increase of about $95 this year for an average house in Howick Township. Harding adds they will be taking some money out of reserves this year.
“It's probably going to be around $900,000 depending on if the projects that we have go this year. We have one project that we're not sure that we're going to get somebody to work on it this year," Harding shared.
They've also planned some purchases that will be spread over more than one year, Harding adds, and he says the increase is higher than he would have liked, but under the circumstances it was a realistic balance.
