Local toy show for charity returns in a big way

A local toy show will take place on April 16 in Zurich, and there's quite literally a big reason you will want to check it out.

The toy show is in support of the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, something that is near and dear to the organizers' hearts.

"I have a brain tumour and it's been 10 years now," said Brenda Hallman, one of the organizers for the event. "That charity is operated by surgeons and neuro-oncologists, but they don't take a paycheque. The money strictly goes to brain tumour research and finding cures."

She hopes that the money will play a part in finding a cure for the type of brain tumour she has. This is the second year this toy show has been organized.

In addition, Hallman said there will be a big feature, before you even get in the building.

"It's been confirmed there will be the largest John Deere made combine, which is the X9 1100."

She added there will hopefully be other farm equipment as well, but that depends on if the farmers need their tractors for the field on Sunday.

"[Attendees can expect] lots of toys. It's mostly agricultural toys, but there are some other vendors coming to make the show more appealing to other people," she said.

One vendor does custom leather work, making anything you may desire. This includes custom belts, cellphone holders, a leather flyswatter, etc.

Beyond collectibles, there are also toys there that are suitable for children to buy and play with.

The event will take place at the Zurich Community Centre on Sunday, April 16. It opens at 9 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door, while kids under 12 are free. Refreshments will be available.
