Collision injures five in horse drawn buggy

Five occupants of a buggy were injured after their horse drawn vehicle was involved a collision with a passenger vehicle.

Wellington County OPP continue to investigate the incident, which closed the Eighth Line in Mapleton Township at about 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of the buggy and two youths were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Two other youths were airlifted to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was uninjured. Sadly, both horses had to be put down as a result of their injuries.

Officers along with other emergency services attended the scene. Eighth Line was closed for several hours as a result of the collision but has since been re-opened.
