Canadian Blood Services hosting numerous upcoming blood donor clinics

Canadian Blood Services is hosting a number of upcoming donation clinics.

On July 4, the Mount Forest Recreation Complex will host a donor event from 2p.m. until 8 p.m. The Owen Sound Legion will host one the following day, July 5, at the Owen Sound Legion from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Finally, Highpoint Community School in Dundalk will have a donation event on July 22 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"Across Canada, thousands of blood and plasma donors are needed to fill every open appointment from now through the end of summer to ensure there is an acceptable level of blood and plasma products to meet ongoing patient needs. Donor behaviour changed during the pandemic, and fewer people are donating regularly now. Attendance is lagging at blood and plasma donor centres," according to a release from Canadian Blood Services.

Additionally, Canadian Blood Services says they need a more diverse donor base, to meet "complex and underserved patient needs." Blood from donors of the same or similar ethnic background as the recipient is less likely to cause complications.

You can book an appointment by visiting blood.ca, using the GiveBlood app, or calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) to find and book an appointment at a donor centre near you.
