The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth (HSKWSP) will hold a pop-up adoption event over two days as they see an influx in pets looking for homes.
"We have 200 animals in care between our two centres, and almost 80 pets currently available for adoption," said Kathrin Delutis, chief executive officer, HSKWSP. "We are hoping our community will choose to adopt this week and give a pet a loving home."
The adoption days take place Wednesday, June 21 and Thursday, June 22 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at both locations. No appointment is necessary.
Adoption fees have been lowered for certain animals:
Adult dogs - Regular $400, now $250 adoption fee
Adult cats - Regular $325, now $200 adoption fee
Rabbits - Regular $50, now $15 adoption fee
Guinea Pigs - Regular $25, now $15 adoption fee
Puppies, kittens, and other small animals will stay at their regular fee. All dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, have their spay/neuter surgery, parasite treatment, microchip, age-appropriate vaccines, and the first order of food as part of their fee. Rabbits come with their spay/neuter surgery and microchip.
"Our goal is to find forever homes for the animals currently in our care," said Amanda Hawkins, senior manager of animal care, HSKWSP. "For each home we find, it opens up a space for another pet in need."
