The next few weeks will see the start of another busy season for road resurfacing and construction projects in the City of Owen Sound.
Six municipal parking lots, more than 280 lane kilometres of roadway, 100 kilometres or so of sidewalks, as well as numerous walkways, steps, and paths are all serviced and maintained by the City.
The 2023 Asphalt Resurfacing project will involve milling and paving the road after rebuilding damaged curb and sidewalk portions and making repairs to existing maintenance holes and catch basins. Other 2023 construction projects, such as culvert replacement, water main construction, and pedestrian walkway renovation, are listed on the city's website.
Temporary lane closures may be necessary for the work to be completed properly, and delays for motorists are possible. People need to be cautious when walking through the work zone even though the contractor will have safety precautions in place to guarantee pedestrian access.
The city invests millions of dollars every year to maintain safe roads for drivers around the region. Sixty per cent of Owen Sound’s 2023 Capital Budget, or $9.5 million in funding, is allocated toward road and road-related infrastructure projects.
The areas specified on the City's Construction and Resurfacing website, and shown in the map included with this story, will be the subject of work that will be carried out between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
