Recently introduced Learn and Stay Grants are being utilized in Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound.
MPP Rick Byers announced in a release that the newly expanded grants for 2023-24 provide full and complete coverage for the cost of books, tuition and other costs for students in eligible programs that agree to stay and work in the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound region after graduation.
As of June 16, Georgian College in Owen Sound had received 24 applications for the Bachelor or Bachelor of Science in Nursing and 35 for the Practical Nursing program.
The provincial government has promised to commit over $61 million over the next 3 years for the Learn and Stay Grant program.
“This grant is a win-win for postsecondary students and communities across Ontario, ensuring our future health care workers get the world-class training they need to give a much-needed boost to local health care facilities in the communities that need it most,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities.
“The Ontario Learn and Stay Grant not only offers a sizeable financial contribution for students, but also has the power to make a significant impact in our community,” said MPP Byers. “After these students graduate, the additional nursing staff will make a huge difference in our local hospitals and long-term care homes”.
