Three more ERs temporarily closing

Three South Bruce Grey Health Centre emergency departments will be temporarily closed this week as they continue to experience human resources challenges.

The Durham Emergency Department will close Friday at 5 p.m. and reopen Monday at 7 a.m.

As the hospital struggles with staffing this summer, the ER was already closing overnight each weekend. Now it will be closed for 62 straight hours from July 21 to 24.

The closest hospitals to Durham include Hanover, Markdale, and Mount Forest, that has its own temporary closure Thursday night.

The Chesley Emergency Department will close Thursday at 5 p.m. and also won't reopen again until Monday morning. The ER is no longer open on weekends, but the announcement means there won't be any availability on Friday.

Hanover is also the closest hospital to Chesley, but staff warn that due to the closures in the surrounding area, to expect longer wait times.

Finally, the Walkerton Emergency Department will close overnight on Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. The ER will reopen Sunday at 7 a.m.

In all instances, ambulance by-pass will be undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open ED.
