The third and final play in the Donnelly's Trilogy opens on August 3 on the Blyth Festival's Outdoor Harvest Stage.
Artistic Associate Kelly McIntosh said the first two plays laid out the friction that developed over time between the Donnelly's and the rest of the Lucan community. She says this play, Handcuffs, provides the conclusion.
“Most people know that a number of the family were murdered on the night of February 4th, 1880 when a mob descended on the Donnelly household and later moved to Will Donnelly's household where they shot and killed one of their victims there,” she said.
McIntosh said the big mystery, to this day, is that the people who were responsible for the murders were never held accountable.
“How is it that the Canadian justice system allowed for nobody to ever pay for these crimes. Why did it happen and why didn't anybody pay for it, especially when there was an eye witness, a ten year old boy who was staying over that night at the Donnelly household.”
McIntosh says Handcuffs previews on Thursday August 3rd and officially opens on Sunday, August 6.
