A 47-year-old woman faces impaired driving charges after an incident at an Owen Sound intersection.
According to police, just before 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a woman driving north on East Bayshore Road struck a stop sign when trying to turn right onto 32nd Street. The stop sign reportedly received substantial damage.
Owen Sound Police were contacted by a witness and given a description of the suspect vehicle. The 2019 Toyota Corolla was said to have sustained damage to the front fender.
"As police investigated at the scene, the driver responsible for the collision attempted to pass the investigating officer in her vehicle as this was her only means of vacating the area," police said.
After stopping the vehicle, an officer determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Further testing revealed that her blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit to drive, police said.
The driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and she faces charges of impaired driving, driving with an excess blood alcohol level, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
No injuries were reported.
