Individual arrested with loaded shotgun

The Owen Sound Police Service arrested and charged one person who was in possession of a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

On August 24 at 6 p.m., police responded to multiple calls from citizens regarding a male trying to forcibly enter an east side residence to confront the resident, who was known to them.

The suspect then sped off in a vehicle and hit two other vehicles in the process, and was later seen squealing their tires and driving aggressively in other parts of the city.

Officers were then notified the suspect was seen parking their vehicle in a west side apartment building lot, damaging yet another vehicle.

Police located the man walking away from his vehicle in the 900 block of 8th Avenue West and attempted an arrest. The officers quickly determined that the man was in possession of a sawed-off shotgun that he had concealed down the front of his pants. The man was not compliant with directions issued by the officers and he was subsequently subdued effectively with the deployment of a taser.

The 25-year-old suspect from Saugeen Shores was taken to Owen Sound Police Services headquarters and was charged with a lengthy list of offences. Those include:

• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle

• Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

• Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident (2 counts)

• Possession of a Loaded and Restricted Firearm

• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle

• Carrying a Concealed Weapon

• Careless Use of a Firearm

• Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is unauthorized

• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

• Mischief Not Exceeding Five Thousand Dollars (2 counts)

• Causing a Disturbance

• Owner Operate Vehicle on a Highway with No Insurance

Fortunately no one was injured during these incidents, including the arresting officers. The accused was detained by police for a bail hearing. At the conclusion of the bail hearing, the accused was remanded into custody.
