The Mayor of Owen Sound lead a delegation from the city as they met with provincial ministries about key issues during the annual Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) Annual General Meeting & Conference in London.
The city was joined by other Grey County community representatives as they called to have Owen Sound designated as a "Community in Need," which would open up access to provincial funding for physician recruitment.
Owen Sound also wants the province to review its allocation for Court Security costs, and a request was made for measures to address escalating municipal liability and insurance costs
Provincial Representatives at the delegation meetings took place with Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Robin Martin, Attorney General of Ontario Doug Downey, and Matthew Rae, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
"Our objective at the 2023 AMO conference was to discuss issues that are important to our community in Owen Sound and to engage in partnerships with key decision-makers," said Mayor Ian Boddy. "This is part of a broader plan to enhance the City’s government relations and to build strong relationships with our federal, provincial, and regional partners.”
The annual AMO meeting allows Ontario's municipal officials to work together on solutions to many big challenges, to learn, and to create new opportunities that benefit our communities.
