Owen Sound Police searching for driver who fled R.I.D.E checkpoint

The Owen Sound Police are looking for the public's help finding a driver.

Just after midnight on August 30, a vehicle entered a R.I.D.E checkpoint in the 800 block of 10th Street West. The officer spoke with the male driver.

Police say after the driver was directed to pull over for further investigation, he accelerated, causing the vehicle to fishtail, and drove through a red light at 8th Avenue East.

The Owen Sound Police didn't pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns.

The vehicle is described as a mid-2000s Jeep Liberty. The body is black and the passenger doors on the driver's side are silver. There's a significant dent in the left rear bumper. It was last seen going eastbound on 10th Street West.

Officers would like to speak to the owner. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Steve Beaney at sbeaney@owensoundpolice.com or 519-376-1234 ext. 159.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce.
