Police stress water safety after rescuing two teens

Huron County OPP are asking the public to remember to be safe on the water after two teens were rescued from Lake Huron.

Police responded to a report of two overdue teens on a paddle board not wearing life jackets on Monday, August 28.

Officers arrived at an address north of Goderich in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh at 2:50 p.m. The caller told police that their 15-year-old daughter and 15-year-old friend had ventured out in Lake Huron on a single paddle board with no life jackets or cellular phones and hadn't been seen in over 2 hours.

The OPP Marine Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard were dispatched, and luckily the teens were located safely just after 3 p.m.

The OPP is reminding the public to enjoy Lake Huron safely and ensure your loved ones are always prepared with the proper safety equipment. This could have been a fatal situation.
