Local unemployment rate ticks upward in August

The unemployment rate ticked slightly upward in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region in August.

That's according to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. The latest numbers from the board shows that local unemployment increased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.5 percent. The provincial unemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 6.3 percent, both unadjusted for seasonality.

The region’s labour force size increased from 163,600 in July to 164,300 in August.

While 2,900 full-time employment gains were reported last month, the increase was accompanied with 2,500 part-time employment losses, resulting in 500 net increases in the region’s overall employment size in August.

Current job postings for the Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth region have increased over time since the pandemic and can be found at www.connect2JOBS.ca. The current number of job postings has reached over 1,600.
