Beach signs stolen from Huron-Kinloss

Several signs have been stolen from Lurgan Beach and the Township of Huron-Kinloss is hoping residents can help them get returned.

Mike Fair, Director of Community Services, says it's the second time this year that the beach access signs have been taken.

"We had a couple stolen back in the spring and we replaced them," he said. "Then just recently, the same signs were stolen again. Then up another street in the same neighbourhood — the Lurgan Beach area — there was another set that was stolen."

Fair says during the spring thefts, a six-by-six post was also taken.

The signs include info about what activities are permitted on the beach, as well as emergency contact numbers.

Fair says it's not only costly to replace the signs, their absence could hinder rescue efforts.

"I was a volunteer firefighter for over 20 years and I remember responding to some of those lakeshore incidents and trying to determine like, 'where are they?' Because its hard to identify where you are when you're on the beach," he said.

OPP have been notified and are investigating. If you have any information, contact police or the Huron-Kinloss Community Services Department at 519-395-2909.
