Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson are both celebrating new CCTV infrastructure funding in their ridings.
Thompson announced that the province is providing almost $74,000 to help Ontario Provincial Police in Kincardine and Huron County and the Town of Goderich expand their video surveillance programs and better protect their communities against gun and gang violence.
Rae announced the Stratford Police Service and the West Perth OPP will receive $200,000 each to improve their surveillance programs. The Guelph Police Service will also receive $200,000 through the Ontario CCTV Grant Program.
The provincial government is claiming that investments this year for CCTV upgrades total $2.8 million province wide this year.
"This funding is welcome news for Huron-Bruce,” said MPP Thompson. “The Ontario Closed Circuit Television Grant Program will support a continued effort to ensure people in our communities can remain safe, and have confidence in the policing services.”
“Our local police services do important work to keep our rural communities safe,” MPP Rae stated. “This funding will help them investigate criminal activity and ensure our families and property are kept safe.”
“Our government is taking action to keep Ontarians safe,” added Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. “CCTV surveillance systems are an important part of local police work to detect, prevent, and deter criminal activity. The systems also enhance police efforts to investigate crimes and provide evidence necessary to lay charges.”
