More weekend ER closures

In what it becoming an all too familiar story, there will be more emergency room closures in the region this weekend.

On Friday morning, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) announced that the emergency room at its hospital in Durham will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday until 7 p.m on Saturday. The closure is the result of insufficient staffing.

This closure is on top of those that were previously announced.

According to the SBGHC, the Durham ER will also be closed from 5 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday, then again from 5 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday and from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

There will also be closures at the Walkerton ER from 5 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, and 5 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday.

The Chesley emergency department remains closed until Monday, September 25 at 7 a.m.

"Ambulance by-pass has been undertaken to divert patients to the nearest open ED," the SBGHC said in a statement released Friday. "Anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 911 to be taken to the nearest Emergency Department. For non-urgent health care needs, Health Connect Ontario is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions by calling 811."
