Brockton hosting job fair

Brockton will host a job fair for students and other job seekers.

On October 18, the Walkerton and Area Regional Job Fair will take place at Walkerton District Community School from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Over two dozen employers and their exhibits will be on display at the job fair, with recruiting for positions in health care, government, emergency services, child care, advanced manufacturing, education, and various trades.

Exhibitors include 18 local employers, Fanshawe and Georgian Colleges, and three service providers. Those are VPI Employment Services, YMCA Owen Sound Grey Bruce, and the Walkerton Adult Learning Centre. Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program representatives will also be there for students in the early afternoon.

Bruce County is sponsoring the event.

“When one of our major employers requested that we hold a job fair, not only to recruit employees but also to show our young people the careers and good paying jobs available here at home, we jumped at the opportunity,” said Chief Executive Officer Sonya Watson. “Skills development, and seeing viable pathways for the future, is critical for our youth.”

Local employers involved in the job fair include the Catholic and public district school boards, the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Community Living Walkerton & Area, the Walkerton Clean Water Centre, Larsen & Shaw, Hammond Power Solutions, Price-Schonstrum, Fritz-Alder Precast, Electrical Contacts Ltd., Bruce Grey Child and Family Services, Chapman’s Ice Cream, TG Minto, the OPP and First Choice Property Maintenance. The Municipality of Brockton and County of Bruce also have positions available. For those interested in the trades, LiUNA Local 1059 will be on hand.
