Schools in Clinton were put into "hold and secure" mode on Wednesday after reports of a shooting in the town.
No details have been released by police, but sources have told CKNXNewsToday.ca that a person was shot and police are looking for a suspect.
A heavy police presence was reported over the noon hour, including helicopters flying over the town.
A spokesperson for the Avon Maitland District School Board has confirmed that Central Huron Secondary School and Clinton Public School were in "Hold and Secure" mode, which has since been lifted.
Officials at the Huron Perth Health Care Alliance confirmed the hospital in Clinton was in lockdown, as well, but isn't any longer.
The OPP have put out a brief statement on social media stating that an arrest was attempted in Seaforth this morning, but no further details regarding Clinton or the shooting were made available.
The Special Investigations Unit has now taken over the investigation. The SIU released the following statement:
"On Wednesday October 18, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m. members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were involved in an investigation in Huron East and Central Huron.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., OPP officers interacted with two individuals. As a result of the interaction, one person was injured, and one person remains outstanding.
Currently, it is believed that there is no imminent threat to public safety.
The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information."
