Housing Action Plan reviewed at council

North Perth council heard an update on the municipal Housing Action Plan at its October 23 meeting.

Manager of Strategic Initiatives Jessica McLean says that included revisiting the Housing Needs Assessment done by the county, which looks at housing needs now and in the future.

"This Housing Needs Assessment was utilized by North Perth in our submission to the Housing Accelerator Fund program and was also used to develop our Housing Action Plan which was required as a component of our Housing Accelerator Fund submission," McLean explained.

Should the application be successful, McLean says the money can be used to implement things from the plan in North Perth.

"A few examples of initiatives that are included in our action plan are the promotion of additional dwelling units, the development of a housing community improvement plan, the development of policies to increase density and the streamlining of planning approvals. We also will look for partnerships for affordable housing," added McLean.

It may be later this fall when the municipality hears whether its application was successful, but if it is, McLean says North Perth stands to receive some substantial funds over a three year period.

"If it is successful, the municipality can anticipate approximately $8 million in incentive funding over a three year period. This funding can be used to implement our Housing Action Plan, as well as inves tin things like affordable housing, housing related infrastructure and community related infrastructure that supports housing," McLean concluded.
