CHSS donates more than 3,300 pounds of food to food bank

Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS) held its annual "Scare Away Hunger" food drive, donating 3,337 pounds of food.

Students hit the streets of Clinton, Seaforth, Bayfield, and Blyth to collect food and hygiene product donations that were then given to the Clinton and Seaforth Food Banks, as well as the Huron County Distribution Centre.

"We really appreciate everything," said Jocelyn Smith, lead of the food drive. "I know with today's economy, people are struggling now more than ever. It would be great to help those struggling with food insecurity and hunger as much as possible."

Murphy Bus Lines donated buses to collect donations, which led to the biggest food drive to date for the school. During collection, Smith said they saw big donation amounts right away.

"It's insane the amount of items we have," she said. "We have four tables set up to have all the items set on and we've already had to add an additional four."

In all, the day was a success and Smith said she was very happy to be organizing it. CHSS extends a thank you to the community members that donated to the cause.
