Harriston Agromart calling for community support to win $28,000 for local youth centre

The Harriston Agromart has advanced to the national level of the "Raise the Barn" competition. Raise the Barn is a contest for agriculture businesses to raise money for local initiatives.

The Agromart is giving all funds to The Grove Palmerston.

"We chose The Grove because it's very close to all of the employees at Harriston Agromart," said Heidi Frey, sales agronomist at the Agromart. "It's located in Palmerston right by the high school there, which many employees either attended or their children currently do or will in the future. It's a big asset for the youth in that community."

The Harriston Agromart has already secured $8,000 for The Grove for advancing past the regional level.

"The Grove in Palmerston is looking to hire a youth ambassador," she said. "That's someone who works directly with the youth that come into the centre. The Grove also has places in Erin and Fergus and their youth ambassadors are stretched a little thin so they're looking to hire one specifically for Palmerston and that's what we would be putting the money towards."

The Agromart is asking for the community to vote for them until November 15.

"You can vote every single day per email address," said Frey. "It would be a huge gift for our community to get this money and to have these funds for the centre and for Palmerston. They do a lot of good work and it only takes a minute a day."

You can find the link to vote here until November 15. Standings can also be monitored.
