SIU ends investigation in Chatsworth

The province's Special Investigations Unit has ended an investigation involving a police officer in Chatsworth.

SIU Director Joseph Martino has terminated the investigation into a serious injury that was suffered by a 34-year-old woman during an incident in August of this year.

On August 20, the woman in question was having fentanyl withdrawal symptoms, and crashed her vehicle. She then allegedly exited the vehicle, with a firearm, and attempted to steal a pick-up truck.

The driver of the pick-up took the firearm from the woman, and she ran into a corn field and hid for a few hours. Police located the woman with the assistance of police dogs, and the woman was placed under arrest. She suffered a broken clavicle in her crash, and a minor wound being bit by a police dog.

The investigation has determined the woman's broken clavicle was not caused by the arresting officer. Therefore, the file has now been closed.
