Bayfield River Valley Trail Association celebrates large, anonymous donation at fundraising event

The Bayfield River Valley Trail Association (BRVTA) and Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC) have announced the success of their recent fundraising and public information reception held at Bayfield Town Hall on December 13, 2023.

The evening marked another step towards reaching the $52,000 fundraising goal for the pedestrian walkway project. An anonymous donor pledged $5,200 in matching funds, providing a significant boost to the campaign.

At the heart of the event was the community's unwavering support for the "Connecting the Village to Nature" campaign, aimed at constructing a new pedestrian walkway at the Bayfield River Flats Natural Area. Approximately 100 attendees contributed to the cause, showcasing the community's commitment to nature, recreation, and habitat improvements.

“This is an amazing contribution,” said Roger Lewington, Past Chair of the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC). “It was heartwarming to see so many people attend the evening at Bayfield Town Hall and to experience their generosity and support of this project,” he said. “The whole community was part of this event and it is moving us closer and closer to reaching and even surpassing our fundraising goal. The finish line is truly in sight now and I thank everyone who is part of making this happen. You are all part of this local success story.”

Key highlights of the evening included a silent auction, where local businesses and individuals generously donated items, contributing to the thousands of dollars raised. The event also featured a multi-media presentation by local volunteer Jack Pal and a video presentation about the pedestrian walkway project.

Mayor Paul Klopp of the Municipality of Bluewater attended the event, acknowledging the trail association and volunteers for their dedication to preserving and enhancing the Bayfield River Flats Natural Area. Max Morden, Chair of HTLTC, and Kelly Vader, President of BRVTA, also thanked the community for its support.

The campaign continues, and the fundraising team anticipates making further progress announcements in the New Year. Donations and more information can be made on the Bayfield River Flats webpage.
