Blyth baker advances to top 10 in global competition

Local baker Jess Miners has advanced to the top ten in her category in the Greatest Baker competition. She said it's still a little hard to believe.

"When I first got in, I really was just hoping to get through that first round," said Miners. "The fact that I've been sitting in first place since pretty much the first week, and we're in week three or four, it's really exciting."

She added the support that the community has shown, helping her get to this position in the competition, means the world to her and has helped her grow her home bakery.

"I'm really in awe of the amount of support I've been getting," she said. "Not just in the competition, but the messages, the well wishes. It really helps my little bakery out."

One takeaway from the competition thus far for Miners is the distance Huron County will go to support one of its members.

Looking forward, the top five will be chosen on December 28. From there, one preliminary winner from each category will advance to the quarterfinals. A wildcard will be chosen January 7, semifinalists January 18, finalists January 25, with the Greatest Baker being announced by February 9.

Miners has been posting about her journey on her Facebook page, Bakery Bliss. If you would like to vote, you can do so here.
