Driver charged after fatal Highway 6 crash

OPP in Wellington County has charged a 30-year-old from Tara with impaired driving after a fatal crash on Highway 6 between Fergus and Guelph.

The collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV happened on the morning of December 29.

The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old from Fergus, died at the scene while the driver of the pickup was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

In a news release on Thursday, OPP said that the accused is facing several charges including impaired operation causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

Police said the accused was also facing charges of driving under suspension and drug possession.

The driver was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.
