The Town of Minto's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is holding an event next month to celebrate Black Heritage Month.
Erin Raftis, Marketing and Community Development Coordinator Erin Raftis says the committee started up last year, and this event is part of their Culture Connections Diversity Learning Series.
"So this is our second official event in that series and we're celebrating Black Heritage Month. It's going to be a really fun morning at the Harriston Library Community Room on February 17 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.," Raftis shared.
The event will feature Guelph area entrepreneur Kween.
"Basically what's going to happen is we have the Kween Company coming to share some history and movement and learning and to celebrate with our community. So Kween is the founding member of this company, and she lives in Guelph and she's an entrepreneur and activist and we're just really excited to have her in Minto," Raftis enthused. "Her company is female owned, black owned and made to create a brave space for members of the black, indigenous and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) community."
Kween's TKC Dance Troupe will showcase Soca Dance, a Caribbean-styled artform, as well as discussions around history and education of movement, dance, and culture.
"Kween uses her company as a platform to support small businesses, and create opportunities and elevate voices. She's gonna lead us in a dance, and discussions of history and culture. It's gonna be a lot of fun," added Raftis.
