Driver charged after crashing into cyclist

A Morris-Turnberry driver has been charged after hitting a cyclist.

On the afternoon of January 28, Huron County OPP alongside the Huron County Paramedic Services and the North Huron Fire Department responded to a location on Amberley Road, west of Wingham for a report of an injured cyclist.

Crews arrived and found a 73-year-old cyclist with serious injuries. The driver of an SUV that struck the cyclist remained on-scene. The cyclist was transported to a local hospital where their injuries were deemed to be non-life-threatening.

Police determined both the SUV and cyclist were going eastbound on Amberley Road when the SUV struck the cyclist.

As a result of the investigation, the 54-year-old SUV driver from Morris-Turnberry has been charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich to answer to the charge.
