Former Perth County Warden passes away

Perth County is mourning the passing of a former warden.

Annabelle Thomson served as Perth County Warden from 2002 to 2003. Her political career began in 1974 as a councillor in Downie Township, where she was the first ever female councillor.

In 1983, Thomson became Deputy Reeve of Downie Township, followed by Reeve of Downie Township in 1988. She remained in leadership through amalgamation, serving as Mayor of the Township of Perth South from 1998 until 2013.

Thomson also dedicated her time to the community through her work with the Women’s Missionary Society, and as a member of the Elm Grove Women’s Institute. She also had a hand in operating her family’s dairy farm located just outside of St. Pauls in the Township of Perth South.

"We are approaching International Women’s Day on Friday March 8th, and as a fellow woman in public office and current Warden, I feel a strong connection to the women who have had the privilege of serving on County Council and in the office of the Warden in years past. In honour of her life and public service to our County, the County Courthouse flag will be lowered until the day of the funeral," said current Perth County Warden, Rhonda Ehgoetz.
