Heavy rainfall expected in Midwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement with up to 40 mm of rain possible in parts of Midwestern Ontario.

Significant rainfall is possible late Friday through Saturday as a low pressure system moves across southern Ontario this weekend.

Periods of rain will begin over Southwestern Ontario late this afternoon and move eastward, with rainfall amounts still uncertain. The region could see Rainfall warnings for some areas as the event approaches.

Then the rain is expected to change over to flurries Saturday night as lake effect snow off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay moves over the area. Snowfall accumulation along with blowing snow is possible on Sunday.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook statement warning of a risk of minor flooding. River flow forecasts indicate that levels in watercourses will begin to rise early Saturday morning. Major flooding is not anticipated; however, any flooding is expected to be limited to the low-lying undeveloped floodplain areas

Everyone needs to be careful around creeks and rivers, with the slippery unstable streambanks, fast and frigid waterways.
