Huron County OPP have confirmed the incident that caused evacuations and street closures in Exeter on March 15 was a reported hostage situation that turned out to be unfounded.

Around 11:30 a.m., various units of the Huron OPP were called to an address on Main Street South.

The street was closed between John Street and James Street, with homes and businesses in the area evacuated for safety reasons. The South Huron Recreation Centre was opened to hold community members until the situation was diffused.

Five people from inside the suspected apartment came out without any issues.
