The province's Special Investigations Unit has concluded an investigation into a police officer's use of a less-lethal firearm on two youths.
On November 21, 2023, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a residence in Harriston after receiving a call from a child welfare worker who was threatened by the males while attempting to check on the wellbeing of a baby.
The two males, both youths, allegedly damaged property, threatened the responding officers and hurled objects at the officers.
At that point, one of the officers fired at and struck both of the young men with a less-lethal firearm. They were arrested and taken to hospital where they were cleared of any serious injuries.
The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, found no reasonable grounds to believe the officer who fired the less-lethal firearm committed a criminal offence. The case is now closed.
