Bruce County welcomes additional licensed childcare spaces in Port Elgin

If you are one of many looking for childcare, there's a new licensed facility open now in Bruce County.

The Little Cubs Learning Centre in Port Elgin had it's grand opening on April 2. It's located at 281 Goderich Street, and adds 106 licensed toddler, preschool, junior kindergarten, and senior kindergarten childcare spaces to the area.

"Bruce County is proud of our collaborative work with licensed childcare operators and other stakeholders to support children and families in our community," said Tina Metcalfe, director of human services. "Extended access to licensed, quality childcare services not only establishes a solid foundation for early learning and wellbeing for children, but positively impacts our local economy by supporting workforce participation."

In addition to supporting the economy, it gives small children the necessary development needed in the near future.

"Licensed childcare environments focus on active learning through exploration, play, and they empower children to problem solve, use critical thinking, communicate and collaborate," said Metcalfe. "Those are all vital for success for school."

If you're interested applying, Metcalfe said it can be done through the OneList childcare application portal.

"Our priority is to ensure childcare and early year supports and services are high quality, inclusive, and accessible," she said. "Supporting new and existing licensed childcare operators and expanding the number of available spaces, along with the recruitment and retention of early childhood educators is integral to achieving this."
