New mammography machine coming to local hospital

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is getting a new piece of equipment.

In a release, SBGHC announced that the Kincardine Hospital will be getting a new mammography machine this spring.

The current equipment, which has been in Kincardine since 2013, will be replaced with a brand new Seno Pristina Digital Mammography System from GE Healthcare.

The new machine will feature technology that will allow for program enhancements, including Tomosynthesis, offering a 3D anatomical view, and Contrast Enhanced Mammography, which involves the injection of X-ray dye through an IV to highlight blood vessels.

The Kincardine and Community Healthcare Foundation has supported the entire cost of the new machine. It will be operational in late May.

The mammography program at the Kincardine hospital supports the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), as well as diagnostic mammography, performing over 1,200 mammograms annually.
