A Hanover Police officer sustained minor injuries from a dog bite during the arrest of a Toronto man on Monday night.
Around 7 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious person parked in a black Dodge Caravan in a residential neighbourhood in the southwest corner of town. They say officers were able to determine the vehicle had been reported stolen from Grey Highlands.
Later, the vehicle was located parked on 7th Street near the Hanover Lawn Bowling Club. Officers say a man was located inside the vehicle along with four aggressive Bullmastiff dogs.
According to police, when they attempted to take the suspect into custody, during the struggle, one of the Bullmastiff dogs bit the arresting officer in the shoulder.
The 20-year-old man was eventually taken into custody and faces charges for possession of stolen property over $5,000 and resisting arrest.
The dogs were turned over to Animal Control in Owen Sound, with Bullmastiff that bit the officer placed into quarantine by the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit.
The injured officer was treated for minor injuries at the Hanover and District Hospital.
