The second annual Cricket Day is coming up this weekend in Wingham on Sunday, June 2.
This year, it's supported through a SLED (supporting local economic development) grant through Huron County. It's also supported by the Huron County Immigration Partnership, the Wingham Community Connectors, and the Township of North Huron.
"From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can come down to the Riverside Park baseball fields and enjoy watching the game of cricket," said Denise Lockie, community engagement coordinator with the Township of North Huron. "There's players from all over Huron County and beyond coming to play in the tournament. There's going to be a lot of action and you might even be able to try it out."
A food truck will also be on-site for anyone who is hungry.
The day was initiated by Gurpreet Singh, captain of Wingham's team, the Wingham Falcons after he approached Lockie a few years ago.
"They wanted to create an experience around cricket," said Lockie. "They have a lot of experience from where they come from, but lots of people have moved here and still love the game."
She said to learn the game truly, you need to go to Riverside Park and witness it.
