Stratford Police Service are asking those responsible for stealing ashes from an Ontario Street home to return the remains.
Police say the break-in occurred sometime between May 15 and 22, at a residence between Waterloo and Front Streets.
The culprit(s) reportedly stole the ashes of the victim's husband and brother-in-law, as well as remains of two pets during the break-in.
One set of ashes was in a corrugated box with a burgundy bag inside from Young Funeral Home. The second set were in a plastic container, in a white L.L. Bean canvas bag.
Along with the remains, the victim's silver dishes, silverware and jewellery were stolen.
Police are not only appealing to the public for info on the crime, they're appealing to those responsible to return the remains.
SPS say "due to the significant, emotional impact that a theft of this nature can have on the victim," they're asking that thief or thieves place the ashes outside of the Young Funeral Home at 430 Huron Street, so they can be reunited with their loved ones.
Police have no suspects at the time, so anyone with tips is asked to contact Stratford Police at 519-272-4141 ex. 2 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
