Two arrested following high speed escape from police

Two people have been arrested following an investigation into a recent incident in Hanover.

On May 22 around 10 a.m., a Hanover Police Service officer attempted to stop a stolen blue Dodge Challenger with stolen licence plates in a parking lot on 7th Avenue in Hanover.

The suspects in the vehicle did not stop for the officer and instead exited the parking lot dangerously, almost causing a collision, and then sped off at high speeds.

Police chose not to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety. Following an investigation, police have arrested and charged a 32-year-old from Barrie and a 22-year-old from Toronto with numerous charges including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation and flight from a police officer, among other charges.

Both of the accused remain in custody, with a court date to be scheduled in the near future.
