Thanks to a civilian tip, Hanover Police have arrested a man caught stealing copper wire from a transformer station.
According to a release, police responded to a call of a male acting suspiciously along the chain link fence of the Westario Transformer Station on Seventh Avenue in Hanover.
When officers arrived, the male suspect fled on foot but was quickly arrested after a brief foot chase.
The suspect was identified by police as being wanted on other criminal charges and was recently featured on the Hanover Police Service social media account for their Wanted Wednesday program.
Police determined the suspect allegedly cut the fence and entered the transformer station to steal copper wire.
The 36-year-old was found in possession of stolen property and break and enter tools. He has been charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, possession of break and enter tools and breach of probation.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing and later released with a future court date in Walkerton.
