Georgian Bluffs is upping its efforts to go green, announcing Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations will be installed throughout the Township.
Construction has begun on the first station at Sarawak Family Park, which should be ready for use in late August.
According to a release, the high-speed, Level 3 chargers will also be installed in public spaces including the Shallow Lake Arena and the Township Administrative Offices.
Additional stations may be installed at community centres and other public spaces over the coming months and could include even faster chargers.The stations will require a small fee to use, which can be paid by card or smartphone apps.
"We are delighted to see public charging stations being installed across the Township," said Niall Lobley, CAO. "Electric vehicle use is increasing, and we know many visitors and residents are looking at where and how to charge up when they are moving through and in the Township. Locating these in areas where people are naturally visiting makes sense."
Installing charges was a priority identified by council for this year, given the increase in electric vehicles for both residents and visitors.
The charging stations will be available for all EVs and operated by a nationwide network provider.
"It is important that we ensure infrastructure exists to help communities explore other options for vehicles. Adding these stations will help Georgian Bluffs prepare for when electric vehicles start to join the Township's fleet over the coming years," said Lobley.
