Local students receive bursaries for education

Five local students have been awarded the South Bruce Post-Secondary Student Bursary.

The bursaries will provide $1,000 towards each of the student's educations. The winning students were required to write essays describing what economic development opportunities or industries, other than the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's (NWMO) Deep Geological Repository, they feel the Municipality should consider in order to foster growth.

Representatives from the Community Liaison Committee (CLC), The Municipality and the NWMO reviewed and scored the applications. Names and other identifiable information were redacted from the applications to ensure a fair and anonymous selection process.

The South Bruce Post-Secondary Student Bursary has been offered annually since 2019 for municipal residents who are enrolled in a post-secondary education program for the upcoming fall term.

The winning students are Ashlyn Beninger, Marjorie Grace Beninger, Olivia Gutscher, Colleen Mulvey, and Lesley Walter. All five are pursuing post-secondary education, are actively involved in their community and have demonstrated a passion for volunteer work.
