St. Mary Catholic School reopening next month

A Mount Forest school that was damaged by fire last winter is set to re-open in a few weeks.

The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) said that it will obtain partial occupancy of St. Mary Catholic School to welcome back students "as early as Monday, September 9."

A fire broke out at the school on the morning of January 25. Lessons were briefly held online, before temporary classrooms were set up at the First Baptist Church and St. Mary of the Purification Roman Catholic Church for the duration of the school year.

In an update posted to the website, the board said it will be transitioning students back into the newly renovated space through the month of September.

Families should expect to receive communication in the coming weeks as the board prepares to welcome back students for the start of the school year on Wednesday, September 4.

"We offer our sincere thanks to the contractor, tradespeople, and our Facilities Staff for their tremendous efforts to complete this project." read a statement on the WCDSB website. "We also thank First Baptist Church and St. Mary Catholic Church for their generosity in providing temporary accommodations since February and to the many community businesses, service groups, and families that offered their support. Thank you as well to the St. Mary Mount Forest staff and students who continued to persevere through these challenging circumstances. We are thrilled to be back at. St. Mary Catholic School in the coming weeks."
