Huron crash sends five people to hospital

A serious two-vehicle crash in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh sent five people to hospital.

Emergency crews were called after a pickup truck and car collided at the intersection of Nile Road and Lucknow Line in the village of Nile around 12:20 p.m. on Monday.

Photos from the scene posted by Huron OPP to social media show extensive front-end damage to the pickup and the car crumbled in the ditch beside a field.

Four people from the car and the driver of the pickup were hurt. All five were taken to local hospital for treatment, with one later being transferred to London hospital. Huron OPP described all of the injuries as non-life threatening injuries.

The crash kept the intersection, which is controlled by stop signs on Nile Road, closed for several hours. It was reopened around 5 p.m.

Police are using the crash as a reminder to drivers of the importance of paying attention to posted traffic signage, staying alert, and always wearing a seatbelt.

"You never know when you may need [your seatbelt]," said Constable Craig Soldan.
