This year, the Perth County OPP will use its Festive RIDE program to focus on driving under the influence of drugs just as much as alcohol.
The Festive RIDE program, which stands for Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere, is an annual enforcement and education campaign around the holidays that attempts to take as many impaired drivers off the roads as possible.
Police are reminding everyone this year that it isn't just alcohol that's illegal to have in your system while behind the wheel. Impairment by drugs is also illegal, and can result in the same charges as driving under the influence of alcohol.
This year's Perth County OPP Festive RIDE campaign runs November 21-January 1.

"Impaired driving is still one of the leading causes of fatalities on our roadways in Perth County. You can make a difference and help to keep our roadways safe by planning ahead and ensuring you have a sober driver," said Inspector Wendy Burrow, Detachment Commander, Perth County OPP.
