UPDATE: Man arrested, charges laid following increased police presence in Wingham

An incident at Town Hall in Wingham that prompted an increased police presence from the Huron County OPP has resulted in an arrest.

Huron County OPP Constable Craig Soldan has confirmed that an individual involved in the incident has been arrested.

According to a media release from police, at 9:30 a.m. on November 21, a Wingham resident came into Town Hall and had an interaction with town staff. Just after 10 a.m., police were contacted about threats that were allegedly made by the individual towards town staff.

Officers located the accused just after 12:30 p.m. A 41-year-old Wingham resident is now facing charges of uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death and criminal harrassment.

The accused has been held in custody for a bail hearing appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

The Township of North Huron also noted that following the incident, Town Hall will remain closed for the rest of the day and regular office hours will resume on Friday, November 22 at 8:30 a.m.
