Region's unemployment falls again

The unemployment rate for Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region has decreased for the second straight month.

According to the latest report from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the region's unemployment rate for November decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 3.2 per cent.

The region's unemployment rate remains the second lowest in Ontario. The provincial unemployment rate sits at 6.8 per cent.

According to the November report, the region’s participation rate in the labour force is sitting at just 60 per cent. But employment gains have been made in crucial sectors like health care and social assistance, with a reported 9.9 per cent gain.

"We saw a slight dip in our unemployment rate this month which is consistent with the local trends," says Dana Soucie, Executive Director for the Four County Labour Market Planning Board. "We are encouraged to see a gain in the Health Care, Social Assistance and Other Services sectors and will continue to monitor participation rate changes over time."
