Londoner charged with hitting tow operator who freed his vehicle from ditch

Two days after a tow operator was hit by a pickup truck they pulled from a snowy ditch just west of Exeter, charges have been laid against a London man.

According to Huron OPP, emergency crews were called to the collision between a truck and pedestrian on Airport Line between Huron Street and Thames Road East just before 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

An investigation determined the pedestrian, a tow operator, had just freed the truck from the ditch and was waiting for payment when the driver of the truck sped off, hitting them. The collision launched the tow operator into the ditch. They were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Two days later, police identified and arrested a 21-year-old London man in connection with the incident. He is charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, failure to stop after a crash, and fraud under $5,000.

The accused has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Goderich court in relation to the charges on January 27.

OPP continue to ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 1-888-310-1122.
