Grant supports West Grey Fire Services

The West Grey Fire Service has received a significant boost in its ability to handle emergencies involving electric vehicles.

A $24,900 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada will fund the purchase of specialized tools and equipment to respond to EV fires and emergencies safely.

Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Edwards expressed gratitude for the grant.

“We are grateful to the Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Owen Sound, Ontario for awarding us this grant,” said Edwards. “The new EV specific tools and equipment will fulfill a critical need within our department and allow our first responders to better help the people of West Grey during emergency situations involving electric vehicles.” The funding was made possible through the support of the local Firehouse Subs in Owen Sound and the Foundation’s ongoing mission to support public safety organizations.

This grant is part of more than $3.7 million distributed by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada to 351 organizations since 2015. In the latest round of funding, the Foundation awarded 19 grants across Canada, totaling over $530,000 in lifesaving equipment.

To support the Foundation’s efforts, donations can be made at Firehouse Subs restaurants or online at CanadaHelps.org.
