Spring thaw brings road challenges across Midwestern Ontario

As temperatures rise and snow melts across Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth, and Northern Wellington counties, road conditions are expected to deteriorate, and flooding risks may increase.

Municipalities are warning drivers to be prepared for muddy gravel roads, potholes, and potential washouts. Public works crews will be working to repair roads as conditions allow, but some areas may remain rough until the thaw is complete.

Flooding is also a concern, particularly in low-lying areas where melting snow and rain can lead to water over the road. Drivers are urged to check for road closure updates through Municipal 511 and avoid flooded areas.

Residents can assist by reporting major road issues to their local municipal office and keeping storm drains and culverts clear to help prevent localized flooding. Municipalities appreciate the public’s patience as crews work to maintain safe travel conditions during this seasonal transition.
